NYA BOWMAN

Nya Bowman a proud native New Yorker from the Lower East Side, is a versatile Dancer, Actor, and Educator. Her journey as a performing artist began as a Concert Dancer dancing with the Washington National Opera and the Martha Graham Dance Company, where she made history as the first Black woman to perform Martha Graham’s iconic solo LAMENTATION in their Italy production, CERCANDO PICASSO. Her stage debut with the Negro Ensemble Company in A PHOTOGRAPH: LOVERS IN MOTION written by Ntozake Shange and directed by Ifa Bayeza, marked her transition to acting; the production earned an AUDELCO Award for Best Choreography and a nomination for Best Ensemble in a Play. She has appeared in international commercials, theater productions - PEIDMONT POINT and STUDPID F*CKING BIRD, and films – most recently Pedro Almodóvar’s film THE ROOM NEXT DOOR. Beyond performance, Nya is a Dance educator, a licensed NYC tour guide, and founder of NYC STAR HOSPITALITIES, producing NYC’s historical and cultural tourism events and tours. A Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University BFA graduate, she also holds professional certificates from the Martha Graham School and Cornell University in Diversity & Inclusion and former member of the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) labor union. Nya strives in inspiring others through performing arts, education, and community. Nya is based in New York City and Barcelona, Spain. Yes, Nya speaks Spanish!
